Allan Ray Warrior passed away 10 April 2023, of Lewy Body Dementia with Parkinsonism. He was greatly loved, and is greatly missed.
Born 18 November 1935 in Prescott, Iowa to Raymond Warrior and Crystal Peterson, Allan grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and graduated from North High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Omaha. He married Kathryn Grayson in Emerson, Iowa and became a beloved husband, father, and later grandfather.
The couple moved west, alighting in Utah and Washington before becoming Oregonians for the next 50 years. His career, communities, and hobbies reflected his logic, curiosity, creativity, and humanity. Among his jobs: Nondestructive Test Engineer on Polaris and Minuteman rocket motors, Nuclear Reactor Engineer, Encyclopedia Sales Rep, Cable TV Engineer, and 19 years as a Technical Writer at Hyster.
Allan was a member of Toastmasters, PFLAG, Portland Urban Tour Group, Rose City Garden Railway Association, and the Unitarian Universalist Community Church in Hillsboro.
After retirement in 1998, Allan created a garden railway (G-scale) at their Hillsboro home, including scratch-built buildings, rolling stock, and a loving nostalgia for the age of railroads. It delighted thousands of visitors over many years of garden tours.
Allan was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Warrior, Crystal (Peterson) Mayo, and sister, Joyce Castelnovo. Allan is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kathryn: son, Allan Warrior and husband Duane Dial (St. Paul, MN); daughter, Dawn Warrior (Colfax, CA); daughter, Kristin Warrior and husband Andrew Purdie (Dorney Reach, UK); and Allan’s sister Allis Gamble (San Diego, CA). Also his beloved grandchildren: Wyatt & Chance Calvillo, Isabella & Abigail Purdie.
A Celebration of Life will be held 12:00 p.m., Saturday 10 June at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church, 6815 NE Birch Street, Hillsboro, OR 97124. Arrangements were cared for by the Fir Lawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home.
