Alvin L. Schulmerich age 94, a descendant of Washington County pioneers, died March 1, 2011 in Hillsboro.
A celebration of life service will be at 2:30 P. M. Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Hillsboro Congregational Church, 494 E. Main St. in Hillsboro. Private interment will be in Valley Memorial park Mausoleum.
Mr. Schulmerich was born February 1, 1917 in Hillsboro.
He grew up on a farm south of Hillsboro settled by his great grandfather in 1868. He graduated from Hillsboro High School and attended Oregon State University.
On April 5, 1942 he married MaryAnn Garthofner of Hillsboro. They were married 63 years.
In addition to farming, Mr. Schulmerich was a foreman of a women's welding crew at the Kaiser shipyards during WWII.
He was active in the community and was a founding member of the Hillsboro Gun Club. Mr. Schulmerich was a life long Beavers fan, enjoyed trap shooting, hunting, history and the companionship of many dogs, both purebreds and mutts, through the years.
Survivors include his sister Evelyn Delfino, Tigard; a son Jerry Schulmerich (wife Jan), Hillsboro; a daughter Kay Mannion, Portland; a granddaughter, Julie White (Joseph), Marysville, Washington; 2 great grandsons, Daniel and Isaiah White.
Mr. Schulmerich was preceded in death by his wife, MaryAnn in 2006 and by a son John Schulmerich in 2002.
