On March 10th Andrew E. Flanders passed away due to causes incident to age. Born in 1926 and raised in Portland, OR, Andrew later graduated from University of Oregon and Claremont Graduate School. From an early age he became an accomplished organist, playing for many congregations for more than 40 years. In his 30's he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served two parttime missions, including one with inmates at the Chino (CA) Institute for men.
Andrew served in the US Navy during World War II on the USS Boston and in the Naval Reserve following the war. He was a three time melanoma cancer survivor, due in part to his bright mind and keen interest in good health practices. In his years working as an engineer for General Dynamics Andrew received 13 patents. In recent years he received 4 additional patents for his research in sound and acoustics.
Andrew was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Mildred Jesse Flanders, his brother LeRoy J. Flanders, and his wife Marie Flanders. He is survived by his children, brother Dennis Flanders, and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Interment, with military honors, will be on Friday, March 16th at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens, 4810 Willamette Street, Eugene, OR. A memorial service will follow on Saturday, March 17th at 12 noon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel - 2700 Leon Dr., Forest Grove, OR.
