Our beautiful beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother died peacefully in her home on the farm she had purchased with her husband Arnold more than 67 years ago. AnnaMarie Leppin, 96, died on November 4th surrounded by her daughters and grandchildren. In accordance with her wishes, a graveside service will be held at Helvetia Community Church on Friday Nov. 8, 2013 at 12:30 P. M. and a celebration of her life is planned for April of 2014.
AnnaMarie (Ann) Meyer was born in Portland, Oregon, the seventh child of Adolph Henry Meyer and Anna Schubothe Meyer of Helvetia. She was raised on the family farm and attended school and church in the Helvetia community. She lived in the community her entire life; with the exception of two years as a young child residing in Germany with her maternal grandmother and family.
In 1939, she married Arnold Leppin of Hillsboro. They were married for almost 67 years before his death in 2006. They lived their entire lives on a farm purchased in West Union and also owned a farm in Columbia County.
Mom devoted herself to the care of her family as well as caring for nephews, nieces and foster children. The family enjoyed many wonderful meals she prepared and will fondly remember her delicious apple and berry pies! She loved all animals great and small and would not hesitate to rescue and nurture them back to good health. She was particularly fond of cats and rescued many over the years! She enjoyed her yard and vegetable garden and preserved many fruits and vegetables for family and friends. A favorite flower was the dahlia and had as many as 100 plants in her garden.
Ann is predeceased by her husband and seven siblings. She is survived by daughters Arnita (Daryl) Scheckla, Alayne (Ken) Bryan and Analene (Dennis) Waterman; grandchildren Aimee Guthrie, Carrie Scheckla and Evan Bryan and great grandchild Travis Guthrie. The family wishes to thank the caregivers that assisted the family with her care during the last five years. In her memory, please consider volunteering time to help animals, adopt a homeless animal or make a donation to a no kill animal facility.
