Barbara May Kunsman Brown, 89, of Vancouver, died at home.
Barbara was born in Moro and resided there until 1926. She then resided in Arlington from 1926 to 1943, Hillsboro from 1943 to 2005 and Vancouver from 2005 to her passing.
After graduating as valedictorian from Arlington High School in 1939, Barbara attended Linfield College on a music scholarship. She graduated with majors in music and sociology. For several years she was accompanist for Carl "Doc" Severinsen. She was a member of Lamda Lamda Sigma sorority and Pi Gamma Mu (National Social Science fraternity). Her music studies were furthered by taking classes in Portland from Alfred Mirovich, John Thompson and Bernard Wagness.
On Jan, 26, 1947, Barbara married Glenn E. Brown at Orenco Presbyterian Church. He preceded her in death in 1994. She worked as a caseworker for the State of Oregon Adult and Family Services for 26 years before retiring in 1982.
Barbara was a member of the United Methodist Church in Arlington and Hillsboro, past chairman of the Hillsboro Unicef Committee, past chairman of the Hillsboro Holiday Clearing Committee for Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets, past president and secretary of the Hillsboro Coffee Club, and member of the Campfire and Red Cross committees.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Judi Mills (husband, Edward) of Vancouver; step-grandchildren, Richard Mills (Bethany) of Lakewood, Colo.; Annette Palmer (Rob) of Vancouver and Brian Mills (Yulie) of Bali, Indonesia; and step-great-grandchildren, Rachelle Mills, Corben Palmer, Brandon Palmer, Sierra Palmer and Joey Mills. Her step-great-grandson, Richard Mills, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, in Donelson-Fir Lawn Memorial Center. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, in the chapel of the funeral home.
