Barbara "Bobbie" F. Godfrey

November 14, 1935 — March 3, 2019

Barbara (Bobbie) Flo Godfrey, 83, died Sunday March 3, 2019 in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Bobbie was born November 14, 1935 in Bismarck N. Dakota to Ivan and L. Pearl Hoy. With Bobbie and her sister, Patricia, the family moved west settling briefly in San Francisco. Her father having found good business prospects in Oregon, drove the young family north, over the newly completed Golden Gate Bridge, to their new home in Sweet Home, Oregon. Her father, Ivan Hoy, had purchased a grocery store and later opened Hoy’s Hardware in its original downtown location. The family operated the store until selling to current owners in 1971.
During high school, Bobbie was active in the marching band and many other community events. Bobbie and her sister learned to swim in the Santiam River while tethered to a rope held by their non-swimming mother, Pearl, who gave instructions from a manual. As a teen she worked summers as a secretary in a logging camp and at Crater lake National Park. She enjoyed skiing at Hoodoo and fishing at Clear Lake.
While attending the University of Oregon, Bobbie met Gary Godfrey, from rival school Oregon State University. They married in 1955 at Sweet Home United Methodist Church with 400 in attendance. The new couple then settled in Corvallis where they started their family. With each birth of their children, Bobbie insisted on using the family doctor, Robert Langmack, M.D. her family physician, who would fly the couple back to Sweet Home where he delivered their four children: Brian, twins Dana and Dennis, and Bruce.
After several years living in Portland the family moved to a small farm near North Plains, Oregon where Bobbie embraced the concepts of organic gardening, raising much of the food the family ate. She became a Realtor in the days when few women were in the profession. Later, Gary would join her as a Realtor. Together, they owned and operated WHYUSA Real Estate and Advance Real Estate of Oregon.
Bobbie enjoyed a good glass of red wine. She and Gary were fond of touring local wineries and loved their annual trips to Reno. After 61 happy years together Gary, died in 2016.
Bobbie is survived by her four children: Brian Godfrey and his wife Janet, Dana Godfrey and his wife Marilyn, Dennis Godfrey and his wife Annette, and Bruce Godfrey and his wife Tricia. Her legacy includes three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia (Pat) Hainline.
