Bernice D. Kennel went to live with the Lord on Wednesday, March 24th, after a period of Covid-19 and declining health. Her grandson Brian, by her side.
Born in Scotland, South Dakota on September 22nd, 1922, to Henry and Bertha Simantel. She had two brothers, Wilbur and Marion Simantel. She married Raymond Sunderman in 1943. The family moved to Oregon in the mid 1940's settling in Washington County. In 1950, a daughter came into the family, Helen Rae Sunderman, and in 1954 a son, Marvin Henry Sunderman (passed in 2010). After the loss of Raymond, Bernice worked at Tektronix to provide for her family.
Bernice was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her Family and Friends. In 1966, she fell in love and married Glen Kennel. Attending St. Peters Lutheran Church in Cornelius and Trinity Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. She and Glen worked the family farm south of Hillsboro till shortly before his death in 1993. She will be missed by many, we are thankful that she is again in the arms of her beloved husband, Glen.
Bernice enjoyed sewing throughout her life. Winning many awards in the County and State Fair. She also enjoyed and created beautiful oil paintings. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.
Immediate surviving family, grandson, Brian Sunderman; granddaughter, Tabitha "Tabi" Harper, and her husband Justin; daughter, Helen Rardon and her husband, Doug; grandchildren Eric and Becky; granddaughter, Heidi Sullivan and her husband Dave; grandchildren, Tristan and Delaney; stepson, Dave Kennel and his wife Pat; granddaughters, Charleen and Dottie; and several great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 29, 2022, at the Fir Lawn Memorial Park, 1070 West Main Street in Hillsboro, OR 97123.
