Betty Jean Curtiss was born March 25, 1934 to the late Roy Danford and Rose Mae Holsey Cross in Joes, Colorado. She was raised and educated there, moving with her family to Forest Grove, Oregon in the 1940's. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1952. She then attended a Trade School in Portland.
Betty was united in marriage to Arlie Curtiss on December 1, 1952 in Vancouver, Washington. They raised four children and celebrated fifty-nine years of life together. Over the years they moved a couple of times, to Arlington then to Oak Grove, finally settling in Aloha where they bought a home. When the children were young Betty worked out of her home selling "Holiday Magic". Betty worked at Safeway decorating cakes and did secreterial work for Don Beck, and decorated cakes for sale out of her home. She enjoyed sewing clothes for the kids, crocheting afagans and flower arranging. The family went on camping and fishing trips on the weekends. Betty attended the Reedville Presbyterian Church and was a 4-H Leader. They made many trips to the beach house with the family where she had an outdoor kitchen as there was "no seafood cooked in the house"! Betty loved to cook and to entertain her family and friends. Holidays she was at her best with the decorating and cooking.
When she needed some quiet time she would go out and work in her garden and watch the birds at the feeders. She loved hummingbirds. As she approached the sunset years of her life and her health became an issue, she was able to stay at home with the help and love from her family. They cared for her every need. She will be missed.
Betty was preceded in death by her two brothers; Don and Loren LaVern Cross. Survivors include her husband, Arlie of Hillsboro, her three daughters and sons in law; Debra and Daniel Reed, Hillsboro, Donna Leslie and Robert Fields of Salem, Diana and Robin Wiley of Estacada, son and daughter in law; Dan and Elizabeth Curtiss of Hillsboro, her brother, Judge Bullock of Portland. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends. The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions made to the Alzhiemers Association in her memory. Please check back for photo and video tribute updates. thanks
