Betty Lou Newton

December 14, 1932 — October 19, 2022

Betty Lou Newton passed away Wednesday, October 19th in Hillsboro Oregon from heart failure. Just weeks away from her 90th birthday.

Betty was born in Arizona and moved to southern CA with her family when she was young. This is where she met her husband. After high school and after he returned from serving in the Navy they were married in November 1950. After having 4 kids, they moved to Beaverton Oregon for what they thought would be a better life for their family. They rented some property and enjoyed farm life for many years until all of her children were raised and on their own. Along with those responsibilities she also worked full time outside of the home as a bookkeeper starting with banks in CA and insurance companies in Oregon. Betty retired from tending and teaching preschool kids at the YMCA and other preschools in the area until she was well into her seventies. She was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served in many capacities. Betty was an avid reader of books and loved all genres. She was a fast reader, completing maybe 3 or 4 books in a week. She was known to stay up all night till she finished reading a book. Betty’s greatest hobby was knitting and crocheting gifts for everyone. Up until the day she passed, she was crocheting a baby blanket for someone in the retirement home she was living at.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert Newton; and two sons, Robert Jr. and Jeffrey. She is survived by her two daughters, Karen Ann (Doug Coffey) and Jennifer Lynn (Ernie Thompson.) Betty was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. She loved her family along with her many friends.

“We will miss her beautiful smile and warm embrace for as long as we live! She was such a treasure. Her love of pets, particularly dogs will be replicated for generations to come,” wrote the family.

Betty will be laid to rest with her husband Robert, Friday, October 28, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. at the Fir Lawn Memorial Park in Hillsboro, Oregon.
