Longtime Oregon resident, Mrs. Betty Lou Simons, 83, passed away Monday, December 26, 2022 after a long illness at the family home in Hillsboro, OR.
Betty was born June 8, 1939 to Alexander & Esther (Groskophf) Weinbender in McMinnville, OR. The family moved to Battleground, WA where she graduated high school. Betty moved to Oregon in 1959 and worked as a bookkeeper for Albertson's for over 30 years. She continued to work part-time for CrestWood Cabinets until April of 2022.
Betty enjoyed traveling with her husband Gene and friends, sewing and reading. Betty was of Christian beliefs. She loved to travel and relax at both of Gene and Betty's homes in Rockaway Beach, OR, and Avondale, Arizona. Betty loved the sunshine and being with family and friends. Gene and Betty were able to extensively travel through-out the Western States and made several trips to Alaska to experience the great fishing and northern lights. They also traveled abroad including exciting places such as Mexico, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji Islands and China. She took many "girl" trips with close friends and her daughters, including going to Sunriver, OR, Hawaii, and Key West. Betty also loved to travel to softball tournaments around the Pacific Northwest to support and watch her youngest daughter play softball. She loved and supported her family and friends and always with a beautiful smile. Betty also loved and enjoyed all of her pets; dogs, especially Dusty her surviving dog, her cats and goats.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Alex Weinbender and Esther Carter; three brothers, Richard, Lawrence and Robert Weinbender; and grandson, Tristin Halverson.
She is survived by her husband, Victor (Gene) Simons of Hillsboro, OR; daughter, Bobbie Steinmetz and husband Doug Steinmetz of Banks, OR; daughter, Stephanie Morris and husband Roger Morris of Banks, OR; daughter, Karen Santesson and husband John Santesson of Hillsboro, OR; grandchildren, Brady Steinmetz of Banks, OR, Madison Senz of Banks, OR, Alec and Wyatt Halverson of Beaverton, OR, Tanner and Piper Santesson both of Hillsboro, OR; four great- grandsons, Otto and Trask Steinmetz and Ryker and Ridge Senz all of Banks, OR; and several cousins and nieces and nephews.
Betty's celebration of life is planned to take place June 2023 at a time, date and location to be announced.
