Carolien Beijer, a resident of the Portland community, passed peacefully in the morning of February 21, 2012 at the age of 90. She was born in Probolingo, Java, Indonesia on October 18, 1921 to Karel and Siri de Waal Malefijt.
Viewing and Visitation will be held Saturday, February 25th from 9am to 3pm at Donelson~Fir Lawn Memorial Center, 1070 West Main St. in Hillsboro.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, February 26th at 2:00 PM at Donelson~Fir Lawn Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Mike McCall from the Hillsboro Presbyterian Church officiating.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a reception in the Friendship Area of the chapel immediately following the services.
Graveside Services and Vault Interment will be held at the Cresent Grove Cemetery in Tigard, Oregon.
She married Johannes Beijer in Surabaja, Indonesia in January 1940. Two sons and two daughters were born in Indonesia. The family moved to The Netherlands in 1951 where a third son was born.
The family immigrated to the USA January 1957 sponsored by the Evangelical United Bretheren Church in Elkhart, Indiana. In 1967 Carolien, husband and three children moved to Portland, Oregon. Carolien was preceded in death by husband Johannes 1993, grandson, Brian Preister in 1979, daughter in law, Donna Beijer, in 1999, son, Frits J. Beijer, on February 15, 2012.
Carolien is survived by son, Gene Beijer, widowed, daughter, Rita & Dave Priester, daughter Alice & Erich Kessler, son, Karel & Shirley Beijer, also surviving are twelve grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson.
Carolien's greatest joy in life was her family, family gatherings, and doting over her grandchildren. Her other personal interests were gardening, sewing, reading and cooking exotic Dutch Indonesian dishes.
The family suggests that remembrances be contributions made to Hospice Care of the Northwest, 1500 NE Irving St. #200, Portland, Oregon 97232, in Caroliens' memory.
