Charles Bruce Guy was born August 24, 1947, in Denver, CO. The second of five children, Charlie lived in Southern California long enough to see Disneyland open, and moved to Yamhill, OR at the age of 12. In 1965, Charlie graduated from Yamhill-Carlton High School. This was the same summer he met his future wife Judy.
Charlie enlisted in the navy after a year at the University of Oregon. His primary role was training flight students to read radar, but he also washed aircraft when needed.
Charlie and Judy married in the summer of 1969, and they spent his last year of active duty in Hanks Honeymoon Apartments in Pensacola, Florida. Early adventures together included their first hurricane, a move to Corvallis so Charlie could finish his degree in Computer Science at Oregon State, and a move to San Jose, CA for a job with Intel. Charlie's engineering career ran parallel to exciting developments in computer innovation in the 20th century, as he moved from projects to start-ups to working as an independent contractor.
Charlie and Judy raised three girls and an endless string of devoted dogs on Fernhollow Lane. Charlie enjoyed working on his acreage and running church sound systems, and was most recently featured in an episode of Garden Time where he showed off his deer-safe blueberry plant system.
Not long after retiring, Charlie received a daunting cancer diagnosis. After a 17 month battle, Charlie went home to be with Jesus. He is survived by his wife Judy, Jenny and Nathaniel Colvin, Julianna Guy, Abbey Guy, and Maggie the dog.
The Guy family would like to express gratitude for the friends, family, and neighbors who sustained us during the last few years.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Northwest Sarcoma Foundation or nurture a blueberry plant in Charlie's honor.
