Coleen Gray

Coleen Gray (Hayes), passed away peacefully on Friday, February 9, 2024 in Hillsboro, OR. Coleen was a long-time member of the Hillsboro Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Coleen was born in Provo, Utah to Kenneth and Maxine Hayes. Coleen grew up in Orem, Utah where she graduated from Orem High School in 1972. Following high school Coleen worked for ZCMI in Orem where she eventually met her husband, Gordon. They were married on April 11, 1975, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Together they moved to Oregon in 1978. Coleen had several careers in her life, including running an in-home child care and a successful sewing business where she made custom fashions and provided tailoring services for a wide range of industries. Her most notable creation was a vest for IV nurses in the Portland area.

Coleen was a woman of many talents and loved working with her hands. Her favorite hobbies included gardening, crocheting, sewing, cooking, and camping. Coleen loved visiting the Oregon Coast and her favorite thing was to watch the King Tides during a storm. Coleen was an accomplished seamstress and despite her career projects she still found a love of sewing special items for her children. Coleen loved working with children and her true joy was to have her home filled with the laughter of others. Over the years she opened her home to many children. She enjoyed her later years spending time with her friends, her children, and her 9 grandchildren.

Coleen is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Gordon Gray as well as her parents Kenneth and Maxine Hayes. She is survived by her sister Linda (Barry) Pearson and her Daughters Lindsay (Vernon) Pierce, Danielle Gray, and Alexis Gray. She is also survived by her 9 Grandchildren (Jaylyn, Dante, Logan, Serenity, Bella, Melody, Noah, Gracie, and Aaliyah).

Services will be held with family and friends at the LDS Golden Road Chapel. Coleen will be laid to rest with Gordon at the Fir Lawn Memorial Park. Interment to be held in private.
