Darrell Fulton

Born on October 22, 1937, in Kerr County Texas to Alvin and Zelma Fulton. Darrell passed away on November 21, 2016 from natural causes. He is survived by his son, David Fulton and his daughter Julie Hodge.
In 1945, Darrell, with his parents, moved from Texas to try to find a better life. Finding work where they could along the way, usually in logging camps, they eventually made it to Gaston, Oregon. Living off the land was how folks got by back then. He learned to hunt deer and catch steelhead from his father and how to preserve and store what they harvested from his mom to get through the winters.
After graduating high school, Darrell enrolled at Portland State University, pursuing an English degree. In 1960 he started working at The Oregonian Publishing Company as a newspaper pressman. He would retire there after 40 years of service. He married Phyllis Carol Holdsworth in 1967 and had two children, David and Julie. In 1971 Darrell built his own home on 10 acres south of Hillsboro, Oregon, where he lived the rest of his life. He raised his family here, farming wheat to help ends meet, growing a large subsistent garden and caring for the apple, pear, cherry and walnut trees. We harvested, preserved and stored what we grew each fall. We were living off the land.
Darrell's love for the outdoors was known to anyone who knew him. His time spent outdoors with his dad was something he often talked about. He passed on this love to his family. Fishing, hunting, hiking, boating and his love of german shorthair hunting dogs were at the top of the list.
Darrell was a loving and devoted father and without fail was there to pick us up whenever things got a little tough. The best.
