Denny Arthur Bishop

Longtime Portland, OR resident, Denny Arthur Bishop, 96, passed away, Sunday, June 11, 2023 at Guardian Angel One in Vancouver, WA.

Denny was born July 4, 1926 to Arthur Sylvanus & Edna Elizabeth (Hollenbeck) Bishop in Hillsboro, OR. He graduated from Valsetz High School in 1944 and entered the US Army during WWII serving as a Field Artillery Staff Sergeant from September of 1944 until May of 1946 when he was honorably discharged. Denny continued his education taking courses at the Behnke-Walker Business College from September of 1946 until May of 1948.

He had worked as an accountant at Armco Metal Products, Inc. from December 1947 until May of 1961 when he began working for Forest Products, Inc as Chief Accountant until June of 1965. Denny then worked for Fluid-Air Components, Inc. as an accountant until March of 1979 when he took the position of Chief Accountant at Portland Iron Works/Power Transmission Products, Inc. until his retirement in July of 1991. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Portland, OR and had served as Past President of the Portland Christian Retired Men’s Club. Denny also served at the Past President, Treasurer and Board Member of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Portland from December of 1974 until June of 1985. Denny had donated over 20 gallons of his blood to the Red Cross.

Denny enjoyed activities at the First Baptist Church, playing piano, camping and deep-sea fishing. He was a Trailblazer season ticket holder for 46 years, and a Linfield University Football season ticket holder. Denny liked watching the Portland Buckaroo’s and Bishop family ice hockey games. Denny, with his beloved wife Alexis, enjoyed over 10 years of square dancing together.

Denny was preceded in death by his wife, Alexandria D. Bishop; and son, Denny A. Bishop, Jr.

He is survived by his son and daughter in-law, Larry and Diane of Clackamas, OR; grandson, Matthew of Ridgefield, WA; great-grandson, Elijah and Ethan both of Clackamas, OR; granddaughter and grandson in-law, Melissa and Brenton of Clackamas, OR; great-grandsons, Kingston, Chayse, Beckett, Hudson and Crew all of Clackamas, OR; son and daughter in-law, Ronald and Jody of Vancouver, WA; grandsons and granddaughters in-law, Shaun and Tonia of Portland, OR and Geoff and Laura of Gresham, OR; great-grandsons, Josiah, Caden and Evan all of Gresham, OR; son and daughter in-law, Stephen & Linda of Vancouver, WA; grandson, Ryan of Portland, OR; granddaughter and grandson in-law, Alyssa and Remy of Vancouver, WA; great-granddaughters, Elle and Hollyn both of Vancouver, WA; and grandsons, Corey of Vancouver, WA and Jacob of Battle Ground, WA.

Memorial services will be held 1:00PM, on Friday, June 30, 2023 at the First Baptist Church, 909 SW 11th Avenue, Portland, Oregon, 97205. Please use entrance on 12th Avenue.
