Scappoose, Oregon resident, Mr. Donald Bruce Brunswick, 77, passed away, Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Kaiser Westside Medical Center in Hillsboro, Oregon.

Don was born March 16, 1946 to Donald & Eleanor Brunswick in Hillsboro, Oregon. He was a graduate of Hillsboro High School and furthered his education attending Portland State University.

Don entered the U.S. Army in 1967 and was stationed at Fort Myer, VA. He was a part of the Third Infantry, The Old Guard. He was very patriotic, loved serving in the US Army, being chosen as The Watchman, conducting the firing of 21 gun cannon salutes for Presidents and dignitaries in and near Washington DC. Don was asked to meet President Lyndon B. Johnson at the White House. He was honorably discharged in 1969.

Don worked as a Union Carpenter Local 2130 for 25 years, as a School Substitute at ESS West for 6 years and for the Hillsboro School District for 14 years until retiring. He was a member of the Beaverton Foursquare Church.

Don loved sports, including golf, baseball, and football, specifically the Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs. He had been a star Fullback for Hillsboro High School and in his senior year he was chosen as Athlete of the Year. Don was also chosen to play in the Shriner All Star Game at Civic Stadium in Portland following his high school graduation. He enjoyed carpentry at home and at work. Don also loved the beach and the mountains.

“Don was a truly humble soul. He was kind, loving and charismatic. His laugh was contagious and his smile endearing. He touched so many lives and each life he touched was better for having known him. Don was a family man who loved his wife, Barbara, and daughters, Kim and Sidney beyond measure. He was a wonderful grandfather who cherished his three grandchildren every minute of every day. Don was genuine, unpretentious and helpful to a fault. He will be loved and missed forever,” wrote the family.

Don was preceded in death by his twin brother, Douglas Brunswick; brothers, Gordon and Larry Brunswick; sister, Donna Williams; mother, Eleanor (Keenon) Peppard; father, Donald Wellington Brunswick.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Brunswick of Scappoose, OR; daughter, Kimberlie Brunswick of Beaverton, OR; daughter and son in-law, Sidney and Don Clarke of Lake Oswego, OR; grandchildren, Hunter & Sarah Clarke both of Lake Oswego, OR and Hannah Heys of Portland, OR; brothers, Vernon Brunswick of Drain, OR, Gregory Brunswick of Hillsboro, OR and David Brunswick of Molalla, OR; sisters, Dixie Ensinger of Hillsboro, OR, Elaine McKnight of Seaside, OR and Anita Brunswick of Cannon Beach, OR; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

A celebration of Don’s life will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 29, 2023, in the Liberty High School Auditorium, 7445 NE Wagon Drive, Hillsboro, OR 97124. Don Clarke will officiate. Military Honors will be performed by the Oregon Army National Guard.
