Donald Gene Helms

Donald Gene, ‘Bud’, ‘Old Don’ HELMS was born in Eugene, Oregon, on September 21, 1927, son of Edward Kenneth and Anna Evelyn Helms, Donald passed away at his home in Hillsboro Oregon, Tuesday, January 10th, 2023.

Donald was lovingly nicknamed and called ‘Bud’ by family at a young age. In his final years, he would refer to himself as ‘Old Donald’. Born during the depression years, he had learned to appreciate all that he had. He gave his life to Jesus during his late teenage years. His love for Jesus shaped his life, his ambitions, and care for others. To his last days he would raise his hands and give praise to the Lord saying, "I am so blessed."

Donald was wed to Frances Jeanette Helms on September 5, 1948. He was a devoted husband to
Frances, the love of his life, who passed away in October 2013. Donald and Frances will be fondly
remembered by their 4 children; Stephen Helms of Hillsboro Oregon, Anna Wantz of Portland Oregon, Paula Linn of Hillsboro Oregon, and Daniel Helms of Hillsboro Oregon. He will be sorely missed by his grandchildren, Christa, Megan, Marsela, Cora, Matthew, Steffanie, Sam, Mason and greatgrandchildren, Roxanna, Rohan, Olivia, Audrey, Elovet, Issac, Elsa, Judah, Eijah. Donald is also survived by a sister Evelyn Horsely, age 101, of Woodburn Oregon, and brother Eddie
Helms, age 83, of Marshfield Oregon.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Fir Lawn Funeral Home, 1070 West Main Street, Hillsboro, Oregon 97123. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the services. Graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2023 at the Valley Memorial Cemetery, 3929 SE Tualatin Valley Hwy., Hillsboro, Oregon 97123 where Donald will be laid to rest with military honors.

For those not attending the graveside, family and friends welcome those to gather for a Celebration of Life at Elmer’s Restaurant, Hillsboro Oregon immediately following the funeral. (Food will be available for purchase)
