Donald Francis Joseph Herman, a resident of Hillsboro, Oregon, died on May 17, 2017 in Hillsboro. He was 89 years of age.
Don was born on November 3, 1927 in St. Lewis, Missouri. He moved with his family to Washington where he attend high school in Vancouver. At age 17, Don enlisted in the United States Navy. He served during WWII receiving an honorable discharge in 1946. Upon his return from the service, Don completed his high school education and later earned his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Portland.
On June 10, 1946, he married Billie Jean Ward in Portland, Oregon. They had four children and made their home in Hillsboro where Don worked for the Hillsboro Police Department retiring as a Detective Sergeant in 1971.
Don had many hobbies. He enjoyed boxing, traveling to new places and watching the ships come into port when he visited Bremerton, Washington. He also like new cars and trucks and simply adored his 3 dogs, Keesha, Misty and Sophie. He was a member of the Evergreen Four Square Church.
Don is survived by his wife of nearly 71 years, Billie Jean, children, Tereasa Loerzel, Deborah Herman, Rita Bennett and Rachael Bohanan along with 8 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael, granddaughter, Jennifer, brothers, Robert and Norman and his sister, Betty.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm with a funeral service on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 11:00 am both at Donelson Funeral Chapel. Interment with Military Honors will be at Fir Lawn Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to Evergreen Four Square Church.
