Dora Jean Anderson Allen

December 3, 1926 — March 5, 2011

Dora Jean Anderson Allen, late of Hillsboro, OR., passed away March 5, 2011. She was 84 years old, having been born Dec. 3, 1926 in Denver, Colorado. She grew up in the farm lands east of Denver with her parents, Arthur I. and Dorothy C. McMurry Anderson, brother, Arthur Jr., and sister, Edith. She attended schools in her farm community, graduating from Kiowa Consolidated HS in 1944. She met Robert H. Allen while they both worked for the Army Air Corp in Denver, and married on March 28, 1945. They moved to Boulder City, NV, and then to Oregon in 1947. They found jobs in Portland, with Dora at Olds and Kings department store. They eventually settled in the Hillsboro area and Dora became a stay at home mother while they raised their six daughters. She was an adult leader for Campfire, Girl Scouts, 4-H, and actively encouraged her daughters in their many endeavors over the years. In 1963, she and Robert divorced. In 1964, she started working for Viewmaster/GAF/Tyco in Progress, and retired from there in 1989. She had worked as a Plastic Injection Mold machine operater all those years. Upon retirement she was able to travel to visit her daughters across the US, and overseas. Something she never dreamed of doing, but enjoyed very much. She also had more time to enjoy hobbies including, stain glass, quilting, cro-hook, and learning about anything and everything that caught her interest. While living at Cornell Estates, she was a pen pal to some students at Mooberry Elementary School, and was delighted to share her knowledge about birds, and astronomy with them. She loved getting their letters back, too. She became quite an avid fan of the Portland Trailblazer basketball team, knowing all their names, and positions, and was able to have a good discussion about their playing with other fans.
She was predeceased by her parents, brother, Arthur Jr. Anderson, and Sister, Edith Z. Rauscher.
She is survived by her daughters, Loretta Richardson(Tom), Roberta Allen, Cynthia Allen, Debra Darden(Robert), Christine Dodson(Gary Haynes), Linda Allen(Dave Hall); half-brother, Peter Anderson, Utah, and cousin Lola Ann Kaufman; 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
