Dorotha Lorene Spangler

September 23, 1917 — February 11, 2013

Dorotha was born on September 23,1917 near Oberlin, Kansas to parents G.C. and Lucy Selby. She attended all of her schooling in Oberlin, Kansas. On May 13, 1935 she married Richard P. Spangler who had two children. Dorotha raised them as her own along with their other three children as they came along. In March 1940 they moved to Burlington, Colorado where they operated a dairy farm. In September 1940 they sold and moved to Gaston, Oregon. From there they lived on various farms in that area before settling on their last farm near Kansas City, Oregon. At this farm they raised fruit crops and established Spangler Farms which packed strawberries for the wholesale market. In addition to their own strawberries they had 77 other growers delivering strawberries to them for processing. In 1965 they sold to Scenic Fruit and retired to Hillsboro, Oregon. Dorotha enjoyed spending time in Arizona in the winters. She also spent time taking care of her flower garden and doing custom sewing for others.
Dorotha was preceded in death by her parents, former husband Richard Spangler, brother Don Selby, sister Lois Avery and daughter Donna Herring. She leaves her brother Gail Selby (Vi), four children Glen Spangler (Shirley), Beverly Thomas (Stewart), Jan Culbertson and Ken Spangler. She also has 17 grandchildren, 34 great grand children & 17 great great grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Hillsboro United Methodist Church, 168 NE 8th in Hillsboro at 11:00 AM on Saturday February 16, 2013.
