Dorothy Helen Davidson Varitz passed away on Saturday, March 19th at Tuality Hospital in Hillsboro after a period of declining health.
She is survived by her husband Ron Varitz of Hillsboro; three siblings, Betty Wilkerson of Canton, MS, Rynnie Sanders and her husband Warren of Winona, MS and Skipper Davidson and his wife Debbie of Canton, MS; daughter Julie Epling, her husband Steve and their children Jake and Jack; son Brent Varitz, his wife Kelly and their daughter Kai; stepdaughter Cheryl Marletto and her husband Gary.
Born in Jackson, MS in 1938 Dotty grew up in Kosciusko, MS. She Graduated from Kosciusko High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Home Economics from Mississippi College. After college she taught elementary school. Dotty moved to Hawaii in 1962 where she met and married Ron. After several years back in Mississippi and Georgia, Dotty settled in Hillsboro in 1977. Later she started a small business that designed and manufactured inspirational Christian bookstore items and moved on to a successful real estate career.
Dotty was a resident of Hillsboro for 44 years. She loved Oregon, but cherished her southern roots and remained a Mississippian at heart for life. A faithful Christian, she was active at First Baptist Church in Hillsboro. She enjoyed gardening, spending time with her grandchildren, and swimming laps at the Hillsboro Aquatic Center, where she was a regular.
Dotty was a passionate volunteer, donating her time and energy to her church, Northwest Medical Teams, and the Hillsboro Public Library until late in life.
Family and friends please join us to honor and celebrate Dotty's life at First Baptist Church, 177 NE Lincoln St in Hillsboro at 2 pm on Monday, 28 March. Dotty will be buried at a later date in Kosciusko, MS.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dotty's memory may be made to Fist Baptist Church of Hillsboro.
