Douglas Alan Stone was born in Portland, Oregon on October 14, 1947. He attended Hillsboro schools during most of his education. He moved to Reedsport, Oregon with his grandparents, Ned and Cleone Nelson and graduated from Reedsport High School in 1966. Doug started college courses at Southwestern Oregon College, in Coos Bay, focusing on Civil Engineering. His college days were cut short by the draft. He was drafted into the Army but chose to be a Marine instead where he served his country during the Vietnam War. His tour of duty lasted until 1970.
Doug entered the work force at the International Paper Company in Gardiner, Oregon April of 1965 until he started college. During his time in the Marines, he was a rifleman, truck driver, mechanic, and preformed the duties of a Sergeant. Upon return from Vietnam, Doug was a self-employed finish carpenter. His specialty was cabinetry, building kitchens and bathrooms. He also enjoyed remodeling, specializing in bars, gun cases, and bedroom sets. Doug even joined his cousin, Nick Krevanko, in Hawaii building cabinets for a year.
From May 2, 1974 until 1994, Doug worked with the Portland Fire Bureau (City of Portland) as a firefighter. He was a Basic Firefighter, EMT, truck driver, tillerman, pump operator, aerial operator, and of course a cook. Years after retiring from the Portland Fire Bureau he worked as a car salesman from 2001 to 2002.
Doug's hobbies included fishing, hunting, clamming, cooking, and especially doing all those hobbies with family and friends.
Doug never stopped his woodworking craft. He was always working on his own house and others homes. He built an outdoor kitchen on his property in Long Beach, Washington. His other craft of cooking was an art as well. He would make gallons of clam chowder and share them with family and friends.
Doug had followed in his father's footsteps by joining the Marines, working for the Portland Fire Bureau, building cabinets on his days off and his focus on family.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, August (Bob) & Betty Stone (Nelson), his son Robby, Robby's mother Marcia, and his brother Randy.
Doug is survived by his son, Darren & Selena Stone (Whitney), granddaughter Macy Stone, longtime girlfriend Carol Kosloske, daughter-in-law, Brenda Baxter-Ehresmann, Grandson Bradlee & Kim Stone (Frerichs), Great Granddaughters Abigale Stone and Mckenzie Stone, Grandson Jacob & Deanna Stone (Boyd), and Great Grandson Nolan Stone.
