Our brother, Edward (Eddie) R. Groth, was called home to be with the Lord after a job well done completing the work the Lord asked of him. Eddie passed away due to a heart attack on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 9:29pm at Tuality Hospital in Hillsboro, Oregon. He was survived by his sisters and brother: Phyllis Fleming, Dorothy Stone, John Groth and Mary Wadel as well as several nieces and nephews. Eddie spent his early years near Chicago, Illinois investigating all the fields around his home and the many ways one might ride a sled. His middle school through young adult years were spent taking full advantage of all the beaches that Oahu, Hawaii had to offer and developing a love for the use of chopsticks. In 1980, Eddie moved to his final home in Oregon with a bang---on the day after Mount St. Helens erupted. For the past couple years, Eddie had been homeless and living on the street or in the Forest Grove, Rolling Hills and Tigard shelters where he was able to fulfill his calling from the Lord. Pastors and volunteers at the shelters stated Eddie had come to know the Lord again and rededicated his life to our Savior---which brings the utmost joy to our hearts. There will be a memorial service at one of the homeless shelters shortly as this is where his friends were during the last leg of his life in this world. Eddie was always telling jokes, setting up the shelter areas, being protective of the volunteers, very humble and never wanted to be a burden to anyone. When asked if there was anything the volunteer could do to help Eddie when he was in the hospital---Eddie stated that there was nothing, and that "the Lord has this one." Truly, Eddie was welcomed into our Heavenly Father's embrace and is now surrounded by unending love and joy. We're certain he is enjoying many hugs from our parents, Edward W. and Frances Groth, who preceded him to heaven. It is a blessing to know that Eddie recommitted to the Lord and was a joy to so many others that he came in contact with. Godspeed Eddie, we will meet again!
