Edward Henry Hardy

July 5, 1928 — June 3, 2015

Edward H. Hardy
Ed was born July 5, 1928, to Henry Hardy and Julia Krejci in Omaha, Nebraska. He was preceded in life by two sisters, Rita and Lois, and followed by a brother named Bob. They were not a wealthy family, but Henry, better known as "Hank" made sure that his children went to catholic school through High School.

Ed worked hard his first years out of school by driving trucks for various companies including Colgate. In 1950 he met Gaynelle Truax. If you were to ask him, he would tell you she had him the moment they met. They had a whirlwind romance and were married on September 6, 1952. They would both laugh about how much they learned in those early days.

Ed and Gaynelle had 4 children, Steve, Patti, Eddie and Rick. As kids their lives were never dull as they moved from Omaha to Kansas, St. Louis, and finally, in 1966 to Portland, Oregon where they stayed.

Ed was a real family man and the family was the center of his world. At birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays the home was always filled with children, grandchildren, and even great grandchildren. During those times he could be seen sitting with a quiet smile on his face as he took in the joy that filled the house.

The kids know that Ed taught them the values of home and family and appreciate the fact that he gave them a strength that will help them through this difficult time. They also know that he and Gay are happy in heaven and pray that they can live up to the example that was set for them. Ed, know that they all love and miss you.

On a personal note, my wife Cathie and I spent most Saturday nights sitting with Ed at the 5:30pm Mass. Regulars of that Mass will remember Ed as the person who walked up and down the center aisle with a broad smile on his face as he shook everyone's hand during the sign of peace.

Peace be with you Ed. You are missed.
