Eileen Antoinette Sorensen

February 15, 1923 — January 30, 2012

Eileen Antoinette (Moore) Sorensen died January 30, 2012 in Portland, Oregon. She was born to Joseph and Antoinette (Kersten) Moore of Roy, Oregon on February 15, 1923. The family operated Moore's General Merchandise in Roy until 1944, and then moved to Portland. In 1952 Eileen entered the Maryknoll Sisters, New York and was known as Sister Eileen Mary. She was assigned to the Maryknoll Fathers Treasury Department in Ossining, N.Y. in 1955. In 1965 she received her mission assignments to Quezon City in the Philippines.
In late 1971, Eileen left the Maryknoll Order and returned to Portland, Oregon and lived with her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Sam Caruso. In 1975, a Jewish matchmaker friend, Minnie Rubin, introduced her to Leo Sorensen and on February 14, 1976 they were married at St. Andrew Church. They moved to Aloha, Oregon, living there for many happy blessed years. Eileen retired as Accounting Supervisor for Port of Portland in 1992. Leo died in 2008.
Survivors are son Ed Sorensen (Michele) and grandchildren, great-grandchild and great great grandchild, her brothers Joseph (Mary), Thomas (Mary Ellen), and John (Josephine) Moore. Her daughter Debbi Sorensen (Doug Kay), and her siblings P.G. (Mac) and Lawrence Moore and Mary Moore Caruso predeceased her. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
To those who loved her Eileen was a confidant, counselor and mentor. She loved her people and they loved her back. She was a woman of faith, humor and warmth. We miss her already.
Funeral Mass liturgy will be February 3, 2012 at St. Pius X Church, 1280 NW Saltzman Rd., Portland at 11:00 a.m.
