Elden McRobert
April 30th, 1920-Dec. 29th 2014
Elden was born on April 30th, 1920, to Joseph and Ethel McRobert and raised near Gales Creek, Oregon along with his 2 brothers, Melvin and Bill and 3 sisters Reatha, Ruth and Erma. Elden met his wife to be, Theresa Vandehey while working in a daffodil field in the Gales Creek area. Elden and Terry were married on May 24th, 1940 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Forest Grove. A few months after their first child, (Myrna), died in childbirth, Elden joined the Army and was sent overseas to fight in WWII. 4 yrs later on his return to his loving wife they started their family of three girls and one boy who they raised on a 30 acre farm south of Hillsboro. They grew Strawberries, filberts and walnuts. Elden and Terry's love of the outdoors was reflected in the beautiful yard and garden they lovingly tended . While working on the farm with Theresa at his side Elden also worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Service for 25 yrs.
Elden always showed compassion and concern for others. His contributions to his church and community and his decades of volunteer work at St. Vincent de Paul in Hillsboro are just a few examples of his willingness to freely give of his time and energy. Elden always seemed to know the 'right thing to do' and did it without hesitation.
Elden was preceded in death by Theresa, his wife of 74 yrs.
Elden is survived by his daughters: Aletha Harlow, Dorene Simpson, Linda Fairham and son Ray; nine grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and sister Erma Heisler. Elden will be missed and lovingly remembered by everyone he touched. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hillsboro St. Vincent de Paul.
