Ezra Levi Kenneth Coble, 21, of Hillsboro, passed away suddenly in La Pine, Oregon on May 4, 2020, after suffering a massive and unexpected pulmonary embolism.
Ezra was born in Roseburg, Oregon, in 1999, where he lived the first seven years of his life with his mother, Heidi Coble-Sharer and his younger sister Allison Coble. In 2007, he moved with his family to the Hillsboro area with his stepfather and later adoptive father Brian Sharer. While in school, Ezra soon demonstrated his extraordinary natural athletic talents and went on to excel in Century Youth Football and Reedville Junior Baseball, where he helped lead the Reedville Jaguars to a district championship and 3rd place finish in the state in 2013. Ezra went on to become a 3-year letterman at Century High School where he excelled in track and football. In Ezra’s senior year, inspired by the ongoing cancer battle of his beloved grandfather, the late Keith Coble of Roseburg, Ezra played for the La Pine Hawks football team where he garnered All Conference honors and was voted both Most Valuable Player and Most Inspirational by his team.
Ezra truly was inspirational. A natural leader, Ezra showed a toughness and commitment to achieving athletic goals through hard work and training, always pushing himself and teammates through extra workouts and drills outside of practice. That work ethic later translated to great academic success, and his keen observation of human physical performance led him to embrace a promising career in health care. In high school, Ezra was an honor roll student and winner of the Hillsboro Rotary Club Student of the Month award. He completed his associate degree requirements at Portland Community College, where he maintained a 3.7 GPA and authored an essay in a published college writing textbook, EmpoWord, edited by Shane Abrams. Ezra’s academic excellence was recognized in June 2019 with his induction into the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society. At the time of his passing, Ezra was enrolled in Oregon State University’s pre-medicine program in Corvallis, after which he intended to pursue a career as a medical doctor.
In his non-school hours, Ezra obtained his Certified Nursing Assistant certification and worked as a CNA at multiple nursing care facilities in the Hillsboro area, where he always became a favorite, especially among the ladies, who adored his caring nature and wonderful sense of humor. Everyone who knew Ezra knew of his love for physical fitness and weightlifting, a sport he excelled at in the few “free hours” he had. Everyone who knew Ezra also knew what a huge Dallas Cowboys fan he was and how he was always ready to take up a bet on their behalf. He was also a talented musician, having mastered guitar in elementary school and later on the ukulele. As he grew, Ezra’s intellectual curiosity knew no bounds, and he became an avid learner of musical forms and theories, astrophysics, philosophy, human anatomy and psychology, among many others.
In addition to his immediate family, Ezra is survived by his beloved grandmother, Karen Boyd, of West Linn, Oregon, his uncle Rhett Coble and cousins Bryce and Decyn Coble of La Pine, aunt Katie Coble and cousin Acie Coble, both of West Linn, aunts Sara Marklund Coble and Aimee Richards of La Pine, and his aunt and uncle from Farmville, North Carolina, Wendy Sharer and Brent Henze. Ezra also leaves behind his loving girlfriend of over 3 years, Jordynn Slater of La Pine.
