Frances Eileen (Wilcox) Myers was born January 22, 1931, in Portland, Oregon, to Arthur William Wilcox and Eileen Frances (Crowley) Wilcox. She died on May 7, 2024, at her home in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Frances was the oldest of two children. Following graduation from Hillsboro High School, she continued her education at the University of Portland, obtaining her Bachelor of Science in nursing on May 31, 1953.
Throughout her life, Frances kept in touch with her university classmates and, after retirement, many of her former colleagues from Tuality Community Hospital, where her nursing career began in 1954 and spanned more than three decades. Of the many positions she filled at Tuality, she recalled her time as manager of the quickly growing surgery unit with pride and fond memories.
As director of inservice training, she initiated emergency medical training and cardiopulmonary resuscitation courses for emergency responders in Washington County. After retirement, Frances volunteered in various capacities as a nurse, lastly at the Essential Health Clinic in Hillsboro.
Frances married Edward William Myers in 1953. Soon after, the couple settled in Hillsboro on her family's homestead property, where they raised their five children and were members of St. Matthew Catholic Church.
Frances enjoyed traveling and, in later years, often remembered trips she and Ed had taken, especially to Mexico, Guatemala, Australia, Ireland, and Italy. She volunteered for a few summers in a sea turtle rescue program in the small town of San Pancho along the western coast of Mexico. She also enjoyed growing herbs in the garden and around the property where she lived in Hillsboro. Visits or Facetime calls with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were treasured.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Arthur Wilcox.
She is survived by her five children, Pat (Nancy), Tim (Carmen), Theresa (William), Elaine, and Eileen (Harry); eight grandchildren, Dominic, Sean, Aaron, Frances, Andrew, Timothy, Cynthia, and Rosa; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be private; inurnment will be at Fir Lawn Cemetery, Hillsboro.
In lieu of flowers, Frances asked that donations be made to Providence Oregon Hospice.
