Gary Wayne Uchytil, 80, of Beaverton, died December 12, 2019. He had various medical conditions, and after 7 years on dialysis, his body finally just gave out.
Gary was born in Eugene, Oregon on December 19, 1938, so he died just short of his 81st birthday. His parents were Tony Uchytil and Pat Schulze Uchytil of Eugene.
Gary grew up in Eugene, going to River Road Grade School and Colin Kelly Jr. High where he was a yo-yo champ. He went to high school at Eugene High where he was on the basketball team and played trumpet in the band. He attended Oregon State University majoring in Engineering and Science. During his first year at Oregon State, he met Judy Baines and three years later they were married in Corvallis, on June 12, 1960. They had 2 sons, Richard and Peter.
Gary worked for 11 years in California for Great Western Chemical Co. in Martinez, California, and then in Mt. View, California for Plessey Micro Science where he was Director of Engineering and Marketing. While in California he was a member and then president of the California Circuits Association. He took his family back home to Oregon when he got a job at Tektronix in Beaverton where he was a Senior Engineer in Applied Chemical Components. Later he went to the Printer division of Tektronix which was then bought out by Xerox. So even though he didn’t change his place of employment, he ended up retiring from Xerox.
Gary was an Eagle Scout at age 13, an Amateur Radio Operator (Ham), he loved fishing, and all things with computers. He held 3 patents in the field of plating.
Survivors include his wife Judy; sister Jean Spriggs (Paul) of Florence; children Richard (Marci), and Peter of Beaverton, and grandson Riley and granddaughter Maddie.
A private interment will be held at Fir Lawn Cemetery in Hillsboro. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a later date to be announced by the family.
Contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
