Lived near Elk City, Oregon until the summer of 1942. Attended Elk City Grade School, first through fifth grades. Stayton High School ninth and half of tenth grades and graduated from Scio High School in May of 1948. Worked in farming, canneries, lumber and logging industries until July 1952. Entered the military service in 1952 and was assigned to the US Army Signal Corps. Attended basic training and technical school in Camp San Luis Obispo, California (Southwestern Signal School). Upon completion of technical school I was assigned the duties of Company Clerk (Cpl. O'Reilly) and served in that position for 8 months. After that I transferred to the Southeastern Signal School in Camp Gordon, Georgia to work as a technical instructor. I was discharged from active duty in 1954 and served six years in the inactive reserve. Settled in the Eugene area after being discharged from active duty and worked in the veneer and plywood industry for the next eight years. During that time I studied electronics, specializing in TV service and repair, working part time in local TV repair shops in addition to my "day job", got married (March 4, 1960), had a couple kids and bought a home in Santa Clara (North of Eugene) but not necessarily in that order. I went to work for Tektronix as an electronics technician in 1962 and bought a home in Beaverton. In 1967 we bought a new home in Hillsboro., I worked up through the ranks and retired from the position of manufacturing manager in 1986. I had been there 24 years. In 1988, I took a part time job with a geotechnical engineer doing soil exploration. This lasted until 1994 when I retired completely. During the time I worked at Tektronix, while my children were growing up, I participated in the local Boy Scout programs. I was the Cubmaster for a cub Scout pack at Peter Boscow school for about five years. I was also involved in training programs for adult scout leaders. After retirement I became the neighborhood grandpa, mentor, swimming instructor, couselor, chauffeur, babysitter, protector and advocate for all the neighborhood kids. I was Mr. Fixit, local repairman, look-out, information source and whole bunch of other neighborhood involvements because we were such a close knot community. I also participated in the upbringing of 2 grandsons, which even included volunteer teaching assignments at their schools. I loved fishing, camping boating, swimming, gardening, photography, new cars and travel, especially when I did it with my wife, Pauline. I was an avid "letters to the editor' writer and since the mid 50's wrote and saw in print more that 100 letters and at least one published editorial. My son died in 1986, the result of a shooting accident. I lost my wife, Pauline, in 2004 after nearly 44 years of marriage.
