Grant Theodore Johnson Jr.

November 6, 1943 — July 21, 2022

Grant Theodore Johnson, Jr. (“Ted”), of Hillsboro, OR, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife, Korene, and family on July 21, 2022 after a four-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Ted was born on November 6, 1943 in Alexandria, Louisiana being the first child of Grant Theodore and Martha Johnson. He was born in Louisiana due to his father’s engagement in the Army during WWII but the family moved to Hillsboro, OR shortly after birth. Hillsboro was his home for over 75 years. After graduating from Hillsboro High School, he decided to serve his country and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force looking forward to seeing the world. After serving in Colorado, he was stationed in Portland, OR where he served faithfully and was honorably discharged after four years.

Shortly after leaving the military, Ted started work in the garage door industry working first as an installer, and then finding his true passion selling garage doors and serving his customers throughout the Pacific Northwest. After a few years, Ted stepped out on his own forming TJ Overhead Door, Inc. He owned and operated this company for 36 years until his final days. Ted loved the business and his customers and took great satisfaction from their faithfulness to him and their many comments of love during his last few years.

Ted loved grabbing life by the throat. He had many hobbies including fast cars, piloting airplanes, refurbishing cars, hunting, 4-wheeling, guns. Was it new? Was it different? Was it exciting and, perhaps, loud? Was there some risk associated with it? If it met any of these criteria and, especially if he could do it with friends, Ted was up for it! His was a very full life filled with experiences, family, and friends.

Ted met his beloved wife, Korene, when they were young adults and they were married on July 18, 1992 when they both discovered that best friends make best lifetime partners. Korene was his very important partner in life and in the business and they celebrated their 30th anniversary a few days before Ted’s death. Korene came with a family and they quickly added to Ted’s existing family and became his own. Ted could always be counted on to immediately drop everything to provide assistance to a family member in need and he designed his home on Bald Peak intentionally to facilitate large family gatherings. All his family, down to the very youngest, will remember the many Christmases and other events celebrated through the many years. In addition to Korene, he is survived by his step-mother, two sisters, a brother, two sons, two daughters, two daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.

There will be a celebration of life service held at Hillsboro First Baptist Church, 177 NE Lincoln St Hillsboro, OR 97124 (located at the corner of Second and Lincoln in Hillsboro, OR) on August 9, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.
