Tigard, Oregon resident Mr. Guy Mac Lewis, 85, passed away at his home on Friday, October 6, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Guy was born June 12, 1938 to Estes & Ruth (Martin) Lewis in Elkhart, Texas. He joined the Mississippi National Guard at age 16 and the Texas Army Reserve at age 18. Guy studied physics and math at Baylor University, as well as math and chemistry at Texas A & M. He met the love of his life Betty Arnell Evans at Baylor in 1957 and they were married on May 24, 1958.
Interested in electronics and radio/video from a young age, Guy worked at KYBS, the Baylor University AM radio station, as an engineer and disc jockey. Nights and weekends were spent at KWTX-TV, where he worked as an engineer. Later he worked as Studio Engineering Supervisor at KGRV Ch. 5 and Chief Engineer at KXII-TV.
Guy worked at RCA Broadcast from 1965 to 1987, where he served in various roles, ranging from Manager of RCA’s Radio and Audio Product Lines to developing the satellite television distribution market. Guy accepted Christ early in life and was later ordained a Deacon at Charleroi Baptist Church in Pennsylvania.
Guy and Arnell moved to Banks, OR in 1987 where they resided for 34 years. He started working for Tektronix as Product Marketing Manager, TV Waveform Monitors in 1987, retiring in 2001. After retirement, he continued his hobby in photography, working as a photographer for trade shows, weddings and theater and dance productions.
Guy had a lifelong passion for ham radio earning his license in 1956, call sign N2GL. He was always making antennas, frequency measurements and most importantly friends all over the world.
Guy had many passions, but the greatest was that of his family. Even though his children lived on both coasts, his warmth and love could easily be felt. He was always sharing his knowledge encouraging them to bring out their best and learn new things. Coffee, Coke floats and milk shakes were always on the menu.
Guy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Arnell Lewis of Tigard, OR; brother Jeff Lewis of Chicago, IL; sons, Stacy (Tami) Lewis of Front Royal, VA and Torrey (Mindy) Lewis of Hillsboro, OR; daughters, Krista (Scott) Hamrick of Gilbertsville, PA and Tobi (James) Van Camp of Camas, WA, as well as 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Viewing will be held from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Fir Lawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 1070 West Main Street, Hillsboro, OR 97123. Graveside services will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at Valley Memorial Park, 3929 SE Tualatin Valley Hwy. Hillsboro, OR 97123.
