Hazel Elaine Drake was born on May 23rd, 1926 in Vivian, South Dakota. She was born to Cora and Jacob "Hugh" Bryan. She was the youngest of 7 children. She died peacefully, of natural causes, at her home in Hillsboro, Oregon on July 21st, 2024. She was 98 years old.
Hazel's family relocated to Hillsboro, Oregon her Senior Year of high school. She graduated from Hillsboro High School and held several jobs before meeting her Husband.
On June 7th, 1947 Hazel married Preston Drake. The couple settled into Hillsboro together, building a home to raise their 3 children.
Hazel loved Jesus fiercely and was very active in her church over the years. She never missed an opportunity to point people to Jesus and share the gospel to Unbelievers. She was a friend to all and had the gift of hospitality.
Hazel worked at Hillsboro Bible Bookstore and then was a Receptionist at Calvary Chapel. She volunteered at Tuality Hospital and the Elections Board.
Hazel enjoyed traveling all over the world. She went on a mission trip to Russia, took a cruise and many other vacations but her favorite was visiting the Holy Lands in Israel.
Hazel was a force to be reckoned with at the card table; playing all kinds of card games, but her specialty was Pinochle. She always fit in a game or two whenever friends or family visited. Her competitive nature also came out while playing Ping Pong. She was hard to beat!
In her later years, her time was spent visiting with family. Her most treasured moments were with her Children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
Hazel was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband Preston Drake, Daughter Sandra McCain and 6 siblings.
She is survived by 2 children, Marilyn (Curt) Schell and Bryan (Kathleen) Drake, 13 Grandchildren, 30 Great Grandchildren and 7 Great Great Grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be held at Calvary Chapel in Hillsboro Saturday, August 3rd at 11 AM.
