Helen Becker Lee passed away on April 13th at the age of 95 in Milwaukie, Oregon. Helen was born on December 11, 1921, to Walter Becker and Estelle Needham. She grew up in Portland, the youngest of six siblings.
Helen was married on May 18, 1945, to Marvin Lee. They moved to Wheeler where Marv managed the Bumble Bee fish house until the river was closed to commercial fishing. They moved up on the hill and Helen began working at Hatch Drug Company while Marv went to work at Clyde Lewis' shingle mill. Helen worked at Hatch Drug until it closed along with the Rinehart Clinic. She went to work at the Lincoln Bank in Nehalem and worked there until her retirement. Interestingly, none of those places exist anymore.
Marv and Helen raised nephews Walt (Buzz) and Don (Skeet) as their own from the time when the boys were 13 and 1 1/2, respectively.
Marv and Helen were very active in Eastern Star and it's organizations. A time of great happiness for Helen was when she was Mother Advisor for the Rainbow Girls.
After forty years in Wheeler, they moved to Hillsboro in 1989 to be closer to family. The modest house in Wheeler was always welcoming and a little different due to Helen's flair. It holds wonderful memories for all the generations that were lucky enough to spend time there.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Marv in 2006, and all of her siblings. She is survived by her nephews Walt Becker (Janet) and Don Becker, four grandchildren; Gail, D J, Donna and Brittany and seven great-grandchildren.
No service will be held at Helen's request. Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery. Donations could be made to the Shriner's or Doernbecher's Hospital.
