Henry J. Bishop Jr., age 88, passed away on September 20, 2011, at The Springs Assisted Living Center located in Hillsboro, Oregon. Henry was born in Hillsboro, Oregon, to Henry & Rosa (Killian) Bishop on February 6, 1923. He was raised in Helvetia on the family farm. He married Ellen J. Bernards in 1954 and had two daughters and two sons. The family lived on the Century Farm in Helvetia. He was a powder monkey for many years, and worked for Washington County for 25 years retiring in 1985. Henry loved working outside, dancing, taking care of animals, gardening, and sharing his memories of the past. He shared his life with family and friends with his great stories and incredible memory. He is survived by his children, Kathy Vanornay of Tacoma, WA; Geralyn Sheets (Paul) of Silverton, OR; Joseph Bishop (Nancy) of Hillsboro, OR; James Bishop (Kathy) of North Plains, OR; seven grandchildren (Alex Bishop, Aaron Vanornay, Nick Sheets, Kevin Bishop, Will Bishop, Brian Bishop and Rebecca Bishop); and numerous nieces and nephews who held a very special place in his heart. He is also survived by his very dear friend, Mae Walker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Bishop; brother, Paul Bishop; sister, Theresa Middleton and his mother and father. A service will be held Friday, September 30th, at 10:30 am at St. Edwards Church in North Plains where Henry was a long-time Parishioner. A recitation of the rosary will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Edwards Catholic Church in North Plains.
