James "Jim" Patrick Shackelford, Sr., 76, a long-time resident of the Cornelius and Hillsboro communities, passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by family, at home in Hillsboro, OR on Sunday, March 6, 2022.
Jim was the 3rd of 8 children born to Frazier and Violet Shackelford on July 24, 1945, in Reedsville, WI. He spoke of many summers, down in Mississippi with his Grandma and Grandpa Shackelford, along with his brothers, sisters and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Spending much of his childhood hunting and fishing, with a guarantee, that whatever was brought home, was for dinner that evening.
While visiting his eldest brother in Vancouver, WA in 1967, he met his wife, Launa M. Beatty. They were married on November 7, 1967, in Reno, NV after a short courtship. Ultimately, settling in NW Oregon in 1971. They remained together until his passing, after over 54 years of marriage.
Jim was preceded in death by both his parents of Oregon, WI and his eldest brother of Vancouver, WA.
Survivors include, his widow, Launa May of Hillsboro, OR. A daughter, Kassie Shackelford of Hillsboro, OR, a daughter, Kimberly and son-in-law Jeremy Horton of Rainier, OR, a son, James "Jim", Jr. and daughter-in-law Echo of Forest Grove, OR, a son, Jeff and daughter-in-law Sameara of Spring Lake, NC. Also, 4 granddaughters, 3 grandsons, and 1 great-granddaughter. As well as 4 brothers and 2 sisters with numerous nieces and nephews all over the country.
Jim will be remembered for being a family man and the biggest Green Bay Packers fan on the West Coast, along with his sense of humor and shenanigans with anyone and everyone he encountered. He was also an animal lover, having several four-legged family members over the years and feeding the neighborhood cats in the last few years. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed gardening and yard care taking pride in the fruits of his labor, trips to the beach, long country drives and his county music.
