JEANETTE MARLENE ANDERSON 1933-2018
Jeanette Marlene Wendling was born October 18, 1933, in Lewiston, ID, the second daughter born to Rev. Otto J. and Lydia Wendling. The family moved to Forest Grove, Oregon and Jeanette graduated from Forest Grove High School in 1951. She met Clarence G. "Andy" Anderson through a close high school friend and they were married on her 20th birthday in 1953. They welcomed their first daughter, Linda, May 5, 1955. Their second daughter, Karin was born October 10, 1956 and Don December 19, 1959.
Andy was employed by McCormick Schilling as a regional Manager which took the family to California and Utah before returning to Cedar Mill, Oregon. In September 1974 Jeanette and Andy bought Key Buy Foods in Umatilla, Oregon and moved with their son Don. Jeanette worked at the store as the bookkeeper for 19 years before she and Andy retired. She would always say, "We didn't own the store, the store owned us for 19 years." Retirement plans were cut short when Andy passed away in 1998 after celebrating 44 years of marriage.
In 2011 while sitting in a restaurant with Linda and her husband Jim, plans were drawn on a cocktail napkin for a "mother-in-law" addition to Linda and Jim's house. She moved into her new home in October just before her birthday in 2012. She would always say, "I have a pantry which I never had before and a walk-in closet which I never had either." She loved living in the country where she could watch the wildlife and the hummingbirds just outside her window. Jeanette always maintained a positive, upbeat attitude even when diagnosed with cancer. In her later years, she was a very self-sufficient woman with a mind of her own.
In August of this year her health declined and she spent 3 weeks in the hospital. She then resided at the Marquis in Forest Grove and worked hard to recover enough to go back home, but the Lord had other plans for her. She was called to her Heavenly Home on November 26, 2018 at 4:10 AM surrounded by family.
She was a much loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Jim) Tooley, Karin (Blair) Mitchell, and son Don (Penny) Anderson, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters: Betty Reade, Ruth Ilten, Mary Wendling and Bernice Berglund.
Jeanette was a life-long Lutheran and memorials may be made in her name to Beautiful Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2038 NW Aloclek Drive, Suite 202, Hillsboro, OR 97124
