Jesse (Jess) passed away December 10, 2016 at the age of 69 in Hillsboro, Oregon after battling Cirrhosis for nearly 2 years. Jess was born June 20, 1947 in Hillsboro, Oregon to Beverly and Virgil Phillips and was the youngest of 4 children.
Jess attended North Plains elementary and graduated from Hilhi in 1966. After graduation he served in the U.S. Navy . Upon returning from the service, in October of 1970, Jess was introduced to his future wife on a blind date set up by one of his high school friends. When asked if he would like to go out with a friend of his buddies wife , Jess said "I guess, I havent got anything better to do" When his buddie's wife called her friend and asked if she would like to go out on a date with one of her husband's friends Bernie said "I guess, I havent got anything better to do" 45 years later they were still waiting for something better to do.
The greatest blessings of this 45 years of marriage were the birth of each of their children...Amy in 1976, Ron in 1978 and Andy in 1981. During the children's childhood, Jess was an active participant with the boys in Cub Scouts as well as Boy Scouts and as they got older and were in high school he was very active with all three of them in FFA. Jess passed on to all of his children his great love and respect for nature and the outdoors.
Jess served many years as well as a volunteer for Washington County Fire District 2 dedicating numerous hours of service to the community.
Survivors include his wife Bernie, sister Patricia Bishop and her husband Jack; brother Jerry Phillips and wife Ilene, daughter Karen Borden from a previous marriage and her children Kayla and Dylan, daughter Amy Applebee, son Ron Phillips and wife Katie, son Andy and wife Joni and granddaughter Aubrey .
Service will be held Saturday December 17th, 2:00 P.M. at Donelson Fir Lawn 1070 W. Main St in HIllsboro, Or
