Joseph Richard Curley Sr., 1st Sgt. USMC Ret'd. Passed away on December 26th in Hillsboro, OR. He was 83.

Joe is survived by his wife of 41 years Sharon, daughters Susan, Kate, Marie, Dale, sons Robert (Bob) and Rick, grandchildren Chantel, Darren, Damon, Saritha, Ricky, Josh, Tony, Jessica, Martha and Lucas, great-grandchildren Savannah, Lexie, Dakota, Macey, and Brayden, brothers Patrick, William, and Paul, Sister Patsy, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Born in Brighton, MA, Joe served 21 years in the United States Marine Corps. He served in,Korea with the 4.2 Mortar Co. 1st Marine Division, including the Chosin Reservoir, 1950 - 51; Camp Bishagawa, Okinawa, 3rd Marine Division,1958; Guantanamo Bay,Cuba 1964; and Vietnam Nam, First Anglico Division, 1967 - 68. Joe used his experience to educate others by visiting the local high school on Veterans' Day. He was active with the Chosin Few writing newsletters, submitting articles to Leatherneck magazine and organizing annual reunions for his fellow 'Frozen Chosin'' veterans.

Joe was one of Boston sports' biggest fans, the Boston Red Sox most of all. He also loved numbers, and had an amazing memory for sport statistics and dates, and would often try his luck on the lottery machines on trips to Spirit Mountain with Sharon. He loved to bowl, and competed in tournaments with his son Bob. Joe loved his family, and enjoyed the time he could spend with them, be it at his home, going out to lunch or on the webcam with his grandchildren across country.

Services will be on Thursday, January 2nd at the Donelson Funeral Home at 11:00AM, located at 1070 W Main Street in Hillsboro. Following services Joe will be laid to rest at the Fir Lawn Cemetery.
