Once all three girls were in school, Joyce took a part time position working in the kitchen at Mooberry Elementary school, later she volunteered at Tuality Hospital for many years.
Joyce and Glen later purchased Glen's employer, Allen's Radiator Shop, Joyce became the weekly bookkeeper.
Joyce loved to play games, especially card games, Canasta was a lifelong favorite. She taught her daughters to play almost before they could hold the cards. There were many evenings at the house with friends and family playing games and laughing.
Joyce loved the beach and traveling, camping at Cape Lookout near Tillamook or Ft Stevens near Astoria. They drove from the tip of the Olympic Peninsula to Crescent City CA. From Cape Lookout to Mt Rushmore. They once took a train to Yuma, AZ to spend Christmas with her "snowbird" parents.
By 1983 all three girls were married and the grand babies were joining the family at regular intervals. JP, Katie, Cory, Aimee, Chuck, Kevin, Nikki and Christopher. Joyce had always wanted a son but found that 4 grandsons were just as good, maybe better.

Church activities brought her to meet Duan Spilde. Joyce and Duan were married on September 5, 1987 at the Beaverton Four Square Church. Duan added 2 additional children to Joyce's flock, Katrin and Eddie.
Joyce continued to manage the shop until the failing repair market forced her to close.
