Juliana C. Waibel January 27, 1923 - November 28, 2018
Juliana Cecilia Sahlfeld was born January 27, 1923 to August and Elizabeth Sahlfeld at the family farm on Minter Bridge Road south of Hillsboro, the youngest of 8 children. She graduated from St. Matthew’s Grade School and Hillsboro High School in 1940. After some courses of business school she worked at Washington Federal Savings & Loan. She married Lawrence (Larry) Waibel on February 17, 1947 and soon after, moved back onto the farm where she had lived all but a short period of her life. She continued to live there while working hard as a farm wife and raising their family. In 2012 she took on a new chapter when she moved from her beloved farm to Cornell Estates to spend the last 6 years of her life.
Julie was the beloved mother of 6 children: Joan Schrouder (and Don) of Eugene, Catherine Waibel, Nick Waibel, Charlie Waibel (and Karen) of Portland, Elaine Goldmann (and Paul) of Hillsboro, and Paula Sherden (and Dave) of Hillsboro, 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by all of her siblings Rose Krautscheid, Anne Pranger, Marie Verboort, Ed Sahlfeld, Bertha Imholt, Joe Sahlfeld and Helen Wyffels, her dear husband of 53 years Larry in 2000, 2 of her children, Catherine in 2000 and Nick in 2016 and one great-granddaughter Ella.
Services will be held at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Hillsboro on Friday, December 7, 2018 with the Rosary at 10:30 and a funeral mass at 11:00.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Vincent de Paul or St. Matthew’s School Library Fund.
