LeRoy Larry Brown Born November 1940 passed away on October 19th 2018 at OHSU Hospital surrounded by his family. He was 77.
Larry was born to Ernest L. and Ida E. (Williams) Brown on November 20th 1940, in North Platte, Nebraska. He was their only child together but he had an older half brother and sister, Jack W. Riddell and Norma Jean (Riddell) Clark. When he was 8 years old, he moved with his family to Oregon and was raised on 7 acres in Mountaindale. At 18, he was a graduate of Hillsboro High School and two weeks later, married his 16-year-old high school sweetheart Charlene “Charlet” Cole on June 11th 1959.
They had 3 children, Ramona “Monie” (Brown) Cohon, Milton “Lee” Brown and Teresa (Brown) Sahlfeld. About 2 years after getting married, they purchased their first home in Mountaindale and later built a new home for their growing family. Larry worked many different jobs until he found his calling of becoming a truck driver to deliver feed to dairy farms. There were many farmers that only wanted Larry to deliver to their farms. Not just because he was one of those talented drivers that could turn a big truck around on a dime, but also because he always had a friendly smile on his face and they could see that it wasn’t just a job to him, he loved those big brown eyed cows. He couldn’t stand not to scratch on them while waiting for the feed to transfer from his truck to the farm tanks.
In his younger years, Larry enjoyed camping with family and friends, razor clam digging, gardening, cutting wood and continually working on and around their home. Later in life, traveling with Charlet in their motorhome, joined often by other RV’er family and friends became his passion. He loved not only getting to see new country and attractions of other states but also traveling to Arkansas to visit Charlet’s relatives. They eventually became typical retirees and traveled to Arizona to enjoy the sunny weather during the winter months of Oregon. His most recent favorite past-time was getting to babysit his grand dog “Kiah” every chance he could.
