Leslie Rae Ross

September 29, 1937 — January 22, 2024

Leslie Rae Ross was born in St. Helens, Ore., to Theodore Eugene Seder and Lula Ellen Adelhart. Leslie grew up in St. Helens. In her younger years Leslie was an accomplished French horn player and played with the Portland Junior Symphony which would later become The Portland Youth Philharmonic, the oldest youth orchestra in the United States, established in 1924.
She attended University of Oregon on a music scholarship. During her time at the University of Oregon she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She graduated in 1959 and attended a year of training at Oregon Health Sciences University becoming a medical technologist in 1961. As a young woman Leslie was an accomplished big game and upland game hunter.
She married Jay Carlton Ross, son of Larry and Fern (Luff) Ross, Dec. 21, 1958. Leslie and Jay were lifelong outdoorsmen mainly hunting upland game together. Music played an important part of Leslie's life, and she was always a season ticket holder to either the Oregon Symphony or the Portland Opera. Jay and Leslie lived briefly in Seattle and Kennewick, Wash., before settling in the Portland area where Leslie went to work in the lab at Providence Portland Medical Center.
Leslie and Jay bought a home in Tualatin in 1970 where they lived until Jay's death in 2014. Leslie worked for Providence Health System in the laboratory for approximately 40 years. When she retired, she was the Portland Service Area manager of all the Providence Laboratories. Leslie began oil painting in her retirement and enjoyed taking many art lessons. She also enjoyed gardening. During her retirement she took a job at Crate & Barrel to keep her mind sharp. Leslie and Jay enjoyed traveling and took many trips to Europe together. They also enjoyed trips to several U.S. cities with New Orleans being their favorite. Leslie was predeceased by her husband, Jay Ross.
She is survived by her children, Alison (Mike) Fuchs of Hillsboro and Martin (Sophie) Ross of Seattle; as well as her grandson, Henry Fuchs.
