Marvin Leroy “Roy” Chambless 88 of Yamhill died October 19th after a long fight with asbestosis.
He was born fifth of ten children, including triplet siblings. He has two sisters that survive in Texas, Collie Bowman and Thelma Rose Wilson and was also preceded in death by 4 of his 1/2 brother and sisters.
Roy grew up in Sargent, Bay City and Houston, Texas after the death of his mother when he was 9. He worked on his uncle's rice farm till he joined the Navy at age 17. He was aboard the USS Gurke destroyer for four years and was involved in the Korean War and the “Inchon” invasion. After his discharge from the Navy he attended trade school and was employed at Tektronix as a design engineer, retiring from there after being employed from 1962 until 1982.
Roy met his wife, Barbara Hanna, in August 1952 after writing to each other for 2 years. They married September 27, 1952. Together they raised four children – Randal Chambless of Huntsville, TX, Donald Chambless of Portland, OR, Patricia Robinson Keizer, OR and Debra Chambless Fasching of Aloha, OR – 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
