Mary Patricia Mcphaill

Lifelong Hillsboro, Oregon resident, Mary Patricia McPhaill, age 74, passed away on Thursday, October 12th, 2023.

Mary was born October 19, 1948 to Curtin Hoyer Tipton and Emma Frances Tipton in Hillsboro, OR. Mary attended Hillsboro High School, graduating in 1966, and had many decades-long friendships with her classmates, whom she adored. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Portland State University, and in her younger years she was an elementary school teacher at Skyline Elementary in Portland. She was very passionate about music. Mary played the piano and sang in many choirs, including choir and folk groups at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Hillsboro, as well as the Washington County Chorale. She very much enjoyed singing with her friends at the Hillsboro Senior Center. She loved all children and animals, was a naturally talented cook, and loved any opportunity to travel and to visit friends and family. Mary was a caring mother and kind-hearted sister and friend.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Lathrop; son, Ryan McPhaill; and sisters, Betty Coleman and Susan Holbrook.

Memorial mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday November 6, 2023, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 475 SE Third Ave., Hillsboro, OR 97123. A Rite of Committal will follow at 2:30 pm at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 333 SW Skyline Blvd, Portland, OR 97221.
