Mary W. Stewart passed away April 2, 2012, at her home in Hillsboro, OR. She was born March 16, 1921, in Seaside, OR, to William and Idylla Manley.
Private interment has been held at Fir Lawn Memorial Park in Hillsboro. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 14, at the Hillsboro United Methodist Church, 168 NE 8th Ave., Hillsboro, OR 97124.
Mary was raised in Hillsboro and graduated from both Hillsboro High School and Linfield College. After college graduation she worked for the summer at the Kaiser Shipyard as a welder. She quit in the fall and went on to teach high school in Carlton, OR, for one year and then went on to teach school in Lodi, CA, for 18 years. She was an active participant and proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous and Nicotine Anonymous for many years. She enjoyed growing roses, reading, and volunteering at Poynter Jr. High.
Mary is preceded in death by her brother William Manley in 1981, and her son, James Stewart, in 1978. She is survived by her son, William (Suzanne) Stewart; 2 grandsons, Douglas and David Stewart; granddaughter Michelle (Erik) Bergquist; and great granddaughter Joscelyn Bergquist.
