Maxine Molly Newton
Maxine Molly Newton, a resident of McMinnville, died on February 11, 2017 in McMinnville. She was 90 years of age.
Maxine was born on October 24, 1926 in Walla Walla, Washington and was the daughter of Otto and Clara (Beringer) Mang. She graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1945 and in 1946 married Wilber Spohn. They were later divorced. In 1969 she married Leonard D. Newton who preceded her in death in 1976.
She moved to Tigard in 1947 where she worked as a nurse for various doctors throughout the Portland Metro Area. In 1969 she moved to Hillsboro and in 1971 she worked for Dr. Swank and later worked as a supervisor with Pioneer Viggo Inc. She later retired.
Maxine was a member of Hazeldale Bible Church, Central Christian Church in Walla, Walla, the Rebekah's and the Eastern Star. She enjoyed button crafts, painting and quilting. She also enjoyed stuffed animals, fishing, cats and volunteering with her church. She was a good listener and a compassionate kind person who used her stuffed animals to bring a smile during tough times. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Maxine is survived by her daughter, Cathy Sneed and son, Cliff Spohn along with 2 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Robert, Bertha and Valgene.
A celebration of Maxine's life will be on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 11:00 am at Donelson Funeral Chapel. A committal will be at Gibbs Cemetery in Newberg. Donelson Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
