Michael Wells Patterson

September 11, 2019 — September 11, 2019

On September 11, 2019, USN (Ret.), Michael Wells Patterson entered the other realm.

Michael was predeceased by his mother Nancy Lou (Wells) Offan (husband Kenneth) and by Michael’s older brother John Wells Patterson. He is survived by his father Donald F. Patterson (wife Sherry), brother Daniel Wells Patterson, sister Eugenia Krug (husband Michael), sister Christine Patterson, and life-long best friend Charles C. Cornwell, Jr.; He was the beloved uncle to Catherine & Alexandra Krug, former husband to Sharon Gayner, and step father to her daughter Shelby LeBlanc (husband Nate). Above all, Michael was the proud father of his son, Jeffrey Patterson.

Michael was born in Englewood, NJ in 1964. He attended elementary school in Upper Saddle River, NJ, high school at Pembroke Place School in Suncook, NH, and earned his English degree from Rutgers University in 1986. After college, he served two tours for the US NAVY during Operation Desert Storm. He was assigned as an Electronics Technician for Reactor Controls aboard USS Haddo (SSN-604), a Permit-class submarine deployed to the Western Pacific. This was followed by an assignment on USS Georgia (SSGN-729), an Ohio-class submarine. He traveled the world by submarine, bonding with his fellow Navy sailors and sending long letters and gifts to his family and friends back home. After serving his country, Michael rejoined civilian life settling in the Pacific Northwest living primarily outside of Portland, Oregon and working at Intel for 23 years.

Michael’s most important job in his life however was being the incredibly loving father to his son Jeffrey. Michael will be most remembered for his kind heart, his love of music, his strategies at chess, and his talents as a nature photographer.

Services with Military Honors will be held at Willamette National Cemetery, date and time to be finalized.

Fair winds and following seas, our dearest Michael. You will be sorely missed.
