Mildred Pauline Read
1927 - 2016
Mildred (Millie) Read, long time resident of Mt. Angel, Oregon, passed
away at 9:15 PM in her bed at The Gardens Enhanced Memory Care
Facility in Forest Grove, Oregon. Millie was born July 16, 1927 to
Ernest and Cecelia Young. A graduate of Salem Academy, Millie worked
several years as a tuberculosis nurse before becoming a full time mom.
To help with expenses Millie ran the family berry farm for several
decades.
An accomplished artist, sculptor, and miniature doll maker, Millie
founded "Buttons and Bows" a business that distributed doll patterns
and dolls. Millie loved to garden and produced some of largest
tomatoes in the area. She especially loved working in her "White
Garden." She was well known for her many craft projects, keeping her
fingers busy until her death. Millie dedicated her life to providing
for people in need and the care of stray animals.
Millie's passing is preceded by her husband Howard (1999), and her
daughter Lana (2012.) she is survived by her two sons, Gordon (Diana)
and Greg (Celesta.) She will be greatly missed by her (6)
grandchildren, and (5) great grandchildren.
A celebration of life is planned for November 5th, location to be determined.
