PAUL GALLAWAY
Born: January 5, 1933 in Texas.
Died: October 9, 2018 in Hillsboro Oregon at the age of 85, after a brief struggle with cancer.
Paul was the son of John M. and Dessie M. (Bangs) Gallaway. Of the six children, Paul was the fourth. The 5 oldest were sons and the youngest child was a daughter. Paul’s early years were spent in Texas on a farm until he was around 10 years old. After that there were several moves between Oregon and Arkansas (where his mother’s family lived) before the family finally settled in North Plains in 1948.
While in High School Paul accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Paul graduated from Hillsboro High School in and then spent the following year working in a saw mill in Coos Bay until being drafted into the Army. Paul spend 2 years in the Army, most of it at Fort Lewis. Paul spent working career at Tektronix with the final two years at Merix in Forest Grove. He retired in 1993.
Paul married Evelyn Violet Dobra on July 1, 1955. They were married almost 60 years and lived the entire time in Hillsboro Oregon. Paul and Evelyn raised four sons: David, Ronald, Stephen, and Philip.
Paul enjoyed camping with family and friends, gardening, working around the house, fishing, and being involved in the church. He was a very active member at Hillsboro First Baptist Church and was at various times a Deacon and Overseer.
Paul and Evelyn had a special love for missionary work. They expressed that love both financially and in more practical ways such as opening their home to others, including the Dobra and Ragsdale nieces and nephews who lived with them while they were attending High School, College or on summer break and their parents were on the mission field.
